Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped pecans, green onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
- Place a large piece of plastic wrap or parchment paper on your work surface. Scoop the cheese mixture onto the center and shape it into an oval, resembling a turkey body. Wrap tightly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
- Once firm, unwrap the cheese ball and place it on your serving platter.
- Carefully insert the whole wheat crackers into the back of the cheese ball to form the turkey's body/tail base.
- Cut small triangles from the orange bell pepper for the beak and small, wavy shapes from the red bell pepper for the wattle and snood. Attach them to the front of the cheese ball using a tiny bit of cream cheese if needed.
- Using a small round cutter or knife, cut two small circles from the provolone cheese for the eyes. Place them above the beak and gently press a mini chocolate chip into the center of each for the pupils.
- Cut the orange and yellow bell peppers into thin strips for the tail feathers. Arrange them artistically behind the cracker 'body' to resemble a fanned turkey tail.
- Insert the two pretzel sticks into the bottom front of the cheese ball for the turkey's legs.
- Serve immediately with your favorite crackers, vegetable sticks, or pretzel thins.
Tips
- For easier shaping, make sure your cream cheese is very soft. You can microwave it for 10-15 seconds if needed, but be careful not to melt it.
- To prevent your bell pepper decorations from sliding, dab a tiny bit of cream cheese on the back before pressing them onto the cheese ball.
- This cheese ball can be made up to 2 days in advance. Store it, undecorated, in the refrigerator, and add the decorative elements just before serving for the freshest look.
- Feel free to customize the tail feathers with other colorful vegetables like cucumber slices or different shades of bell pepper.
- If you don't have mini chocolate chips, small pieces of black olive can work as pupils for the eyes.
