For the Frosting:

  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Make the brownies: In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and cocoa powder until smooth. Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well. Stir in flour and salt just until combined.
  3. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  4. Make the frosting: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in milk and cocoa powder. Bring just to a boil, then remove from heat. Whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and glossy.
  5. Frost while warm: Pour frosting over the warm brownies and spread evenly. Let cool completely so the frosting sets.

Why We Love Them

Rich. Fudgy. Nostalgic. These brownies are more than just dessert—they’re a sweet throwback to the carefree days of lunch trays and recess bells. Make a batch and enjoy a little taste of childhood again.
