Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
- Dissolve sugar in the warm water in a mixing bowl.
- Sprinkle yeast on top and let it proof for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Combine Wet Ingredients:
- Stir the vegetable oil into the proofed yeast mixture.
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead:
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 3-5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning it to coat both sides.
- Cover with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Loaves:
- Punch down the dough to release air. Divide it in half and shape into loaves.
- Place each loaf into a greased bread pan.
- Second Rise:
- Cover again and let rise for 30-40 minutes, until the dough fills the pans nicely.
- Bake:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the loaves for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Finish:
- Remove the loaves from the pans and brush the tops with butter while still warm for a soft, shiny crust.
